Frantic Rescue Dog Makes A Beeline For Helpless Toddler Trembling In A Ditch

A dog’s detection skills are excellent. That’s why canines are often recruited to police forces and the military. In fact, depending on conditions, dogs are able to detect something roughly 40 feet underground and roughly 12 miles away.
But one morning, when Peanut unexpectedly started barking, yelping, and racing around the house, her family certainly didn’t expect the turn of events that would happen next.

When Peanut showed-up at the Delta Animal Shelter, she was in really rough shape. Poor Peanut had two broken legs, a few broken ribs, and a tummy full of flooring. (She had eaten some carpet.)
Her former owner was convicted of animal abuse, and once she was healed, Peanut found a forever home with a wonderful family. And while they already knew that she was an amazing addition to their pack, they certainly weren’t expecting what came next.
It was around 11 am when Peanut started barking like crazy and running up and down the stairs. Then, she went into the garage and alerted her dad that she wanted to go outside. When he opened the door, Peanut beelined for the field behind their house at full speed. Of course her dad followed closely behind. He was shocked by what Peanut had found laying in a ditch, not far from their home.
“My husband followed her and to his surprise, he found a naked, shivering, 3-year-old-girl curled up in a ball. He scooped her up, wrapped her in his sweatshirt, and brought her inside,” shared Peanut’s mom.

Peanut’s dad called 9-1-1. Fortunately, the little girl wasn’t outwardly hurt.
How incredible is it that Peanut was so determined to find her, despite not officially meeting her until the moment he found her in the ditch? Dogs are absolutely amazing!
“She has been such a blessing to us, and now to others. Words cannot express how grateful we are that we have Peanut in our lives and how amazing she is. She is a part of our family now and thanks to wonderful people like you at the shelter, she is alive. Without her, not only would she have been gone from this world, but the life of this little girl might have been taken as well,” Peanut’s mom said in a heartfelt letter to the shelter.
The State of Michigan even presented Peanut with an award for her heroism in helping  save the tiny toddler. What a happy ending in what could have been a total tragedy.
