12 Ways To Celebrate Dog Dad’s Day!

Father’s Day is right around the corner so we have to celebrate our Dog Dad’s duly too, right?

All the playful nights, the trips together, and the food that they provide is a big deal. And let’s be honest, your dog is your baby so it’s only fair.

Let’s look at some ways to show appreciation to a very special dog dad close to your and your dog’s heart.

1 – Picnic in the park with Pops & pup

As man’s best friend, sharing a picnic in a gorgeous outdoor location sounds like a dream. Why not pick a picnic basket full of gorgeous edible treats for man and dog, and enjoy it together! You can grab a few delicious meaty treats and maybe even a sandwich or two!

Throwing in a frisbee will be sure that they can have some one-on-one fun bonding time.

Fishing with your dog can be a fun way to spend fathers day

2 – Gone fishing

If your dog has been trained for relaxing in a boat? Why not go enjoy some peace and quiet out on the water, and catch a couple of fish! You could even use these for one of our later ideas if you fancy it!

What could be better though, seriously? A quiet, calm day on the lake, just you, your dog and nature.

3 – Water lovers

Whether your dog loves to swim or just loves being near the water, a day at your local lake, paddleboarding or hanging in your backyard pool is sure to put a smile on both dog and dog dad’s face.

Have some fun in the sun and cool off your dog and his daddio. If you don’t have access to any of these you can always hook up a sprinkler in your hard and let the fun begin!

4 – Take a ride

Hop in the car and drive. With summertime right around the bend, it’s the perfect weather to let the windows down and cruise!

Taking a drive with your best companion by your side is sure to clear your mind and let your doggo feel the wind in his or her ears.

So, grab yourself and your dog some water, and hit the road!

do remember to include dog safe treats! No onions, plenty of tasty meat, and this way you can share your efforts with fido for a wonderful day together.

5 – Have a cookout

Grill time with some dad and dog friendly menu choices would be super important! A good ole’ BBQ cookout should do the trick! But watch out for drool, and I don’t just mean from the dog either.

This option could correlate to the picnic idea if you wanted it to or it could just take its place, whichever is best for your family!

6 – Ice cream date

The days are longer, and they are hotter too. Why not cool down a bit with a delicious ice cream cone?

Dogs love ice cream and I bet their dads do as well, especially when they get to share!

If you don’t want your dog eating the cone, a cup will do just fine for them.

7 – Take a hike

In this instance, I mean that in the best way possible. Taking a hike together will bring the outdoors, fun in the sun, and some much needed bonding time into one activity.

Dogs love going on adventures and so do their dads. Grab a leash, a harness, and some snacks and hit the trails!

Plus, going on a hike with your fur baby is a great exercise not only for you but for them as well. It also brings you both closer to nature.

paddleboarding with your dog can be a really fun way to spend fathers day.

8 – Go camping

This can go hand in hand with the hiking idea. You’re already planning an outdoor getaway so why not pitch a tent and stay for the weekend?

Be sure to go prepared and pack all the essentials.

Taking a camping trip is a fun way to get away from the fast living and just enjoy the company of your pooch.

9 – Celebrate in style

Buying your dog and their dad is the cutest idea! They love each other and have so much in common that they can even dress alike.

A quick search online will lead you to plenty of outfit options to match the two. Don’t forget the camera if you choose this idea, it will be a day to remember.

The only question is, who will wear it best?

napping with your dog for fathers day sounds like just about the best activity to me – sure I’m a dog mum not a dog dad – but cute cuddle times is perfect!

10 – Nap time

This one is a fantastic option for senior dogs. With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Father’s Day can be a great time to catch up on some much need snoozing, oh… and cuddles too!

Plan to have no plans, grab a pillow, grab your pup, and catch some Zs.

11 – Doggy playdate

If you have a buddy with a dog, meet up with them and have a play date for you and your pup.

You can have some bro time and your dog can have a new (or old) friend.

Whether the dogs already have an established friendship or are new timers in the friend arena, this will be a great way for them to branch out and have fun!

12 – Gifts from the dog!

This one is for the ones buying for a dog dad or for a dog dad that wants to buy something for himself. Aside from the activities, buying a gift is the number one way to bring joy or show appreciation on this special day.

There are many gifts that speak directly to the dog dads out there! Let’s look at some of the best gift ideas for your dog dad!

My favourite mug is this one from Scruffy Little Terrier, it’s so cute!

A personalized mug: Purchase a coffee mug with a picture of the dog and the dad or even just the dog and it’s sure to bring a positive smile to his face every time he uses it.

Personalized socks: You can buy socks with the dog’s picture posted all over them! This is sure to get a laugh and is a great reminder of the loving furball any time the dog dad outs them on.

Dog dad hat: Again, you can put a picture of the pup on the front of the hat or keep it simple and put a cute dog reference on the front like dog dad, best dog dad ever, the dogfather, or whatever your creative mind can come up with.

Matching outfit: Although I have already established this idea, it deserves to be brought up again!

Pet portrait: Memories can last a lifetime and they can last even longer when photographed. Having a canvas made of your dog and their dad can bring a lot of joy into the home. If the dog dad that is being celebrated doesn’t like pictures of himself then a picture of just the dog will do the trick!

BBQ apron: The warmer weather is here and so are the cookouts. Help your dog’s dad grill out in style while showing his love for his fur baby!

Don’t forget a big fankoo!

It’s really important to have pup say thank you for all the best times, help and care Dad does for Fido!

At the end of the day, it’s safe to say that no matter what you do, just showing them how special they truly are will make the day one to remember. When you include the dog, it helps them feel the joy and love just as well!
